Commerz show the way again

30/05/2003

Tree-huggers around the world will be uniting in Evian in France this weekend, where the Group of 8 industrial nations will be meeting for their periodic chin-wag. No doubt "The Shrub" (Little Bush) will have many things on his mind: where are the weapons of mass destruction, the prospects for peace in Palestine and why is it that a town is named after a bottle of water?

Reverend Tony is preaching in Poland today as he continues on a world tour hastily organised to get him out of the country, so he doesn't have to answer awkward questions on the fabricated government report on Iraqs WMD's, tuition fees and a referendum on the european constitution.

I was struggling to find a winner of this months Muppet of the Month award, other than yours truly, for some quite mediocre trading. Fortunately though a few minutes ago an old friend rescued me from ignominy. Today Commerzbank have upgraded Vodafone with a price target of 142p. This from the bank who a few months ago, when VODA were at 93p, downgraded them with a price target of 83p. They never went lower! Commerz have therefore told their customers to sell at 93p and to buy at 133p and to take a great big loss in the middle. And they wonder why they can't make any money?
